The Australian Arabian and closely followed by the New Zealand Arabian which are based on the Arabian Horses who have formed togethor via the work of many studs, breeders and owners over decades.  Through the 19th and early part of the 20th century when the major number of Arabians had been brought to Australia and New Zealand.  Through the work of various people who had the foresight to bring the wonderful equine breed to these shores for the betterment of the equine population.

The Arabian Horse had played an important part in not only breeding Purebred Arabians but also adding the Arabian blood to other horse breeding groups such as the Australian Stockhorse.  The Arabian has been used to breed Anglo ArabiansArabian Warmbloods, (a great example of Anglo breeding and the use of this breeding/Arabian Blood in the Trakehner Breeders Assoc. of NZ now is Alexanderschante AS (Exp. NZ) of Aslaan Perforrmance Horses- (see the stud profile).  Also in pony breeding.  The use of Arabian horse blood was also widely carried out on stations and farms across Australia to breed tough, athletic horses for various uses.

There are so many possibilities for the use of Arabian blood to add, strength, endurance and many other attributes for performance horses.

Arabian horses are capable of anything with the  owner/trainer and training that works with the horse not against it.

These horses are all Arabian bred with predominately Crabbet breeding.  Crabbet and GSB registered Arabians made up the majority of Arabians who came to Australia and New Zealand which formed the basis of the Australian Arabian along with the New Zealand Arabian for many decades up until the very late 1970's.  When another influx of imports came to Australia from the USA as well as other countries.  We had a small taste of Polish through Cyrasa (imp) who was part of the Dept. of Agriculture Stud.   Egyptian blood, Polish blood, Russian blood.  All this added to the gene pool in the next generation of the Australian Arabian.

Please check out the site, visit the studs via website or contact them via the information on our links and stud profile pages.  All members are more than willing to assist you and if they cannot will assist in connecting you with another stud or breeder who may.    By networking and working in a Co-Operative to promote through advertising such as the Down Under Arabians co-op.

We hope to provide various stud profiles, history information and also interesting pieces from people about the Arabian horse.  Plus also about the horses and people who make up the Arabian Horse in Australia and New Zealand.

From the yahoo groups of CrabbetAustralia and HorseArabian it has become clear that there is a need for a group of Arabian breeders and owners to make available the ability for people to learn about the Arabian Horses of Australia that many are not aware of for many reasons.

Below are the two yahoo links:

We  are working togethor to promote and provide information, education and the history behind the Arabian Breed and the Crabbet Bred Arabians.  The Arabian horse journey via other countries, breeders and how it came to Australia & New Zealand.  The breed in Australia, the influence the breed had and has on the Australian Equines.

Our groups has members who breed Arabian Horses that are from various groups such as Pure Crabbet, High % Crabbet, Crabbet Related, GSB, Colonial/College Bred, Russian, Egyptian Polish and also blends of these groups.  Most important of all is that they are all Aussie bred Arabian Horses.

We provide the link to the Ozcrabbet % reference that Richard Cerveny produced and is updating on a regular basis, so that people can learn about the Crabbet Arabian and what percentage of Crabbet blood is in their own horses.
